Sprinkles
Sprinkles are very much sold in your local baking store. You'll perhaps be amazed by their various sizes and shapes and as the various forms they come into such as colored sugars, and beads, and non-pareils. You may even pick your own color. It will be much more fun munching a cupcake with your favorite color blue.
Flakes and Nuts
Frosted cakes are yummy, but they can be made more delicious with the addition of flakes and nuts. So why not add more flavor and texture to your cake with different shredded or flaked coconut, walnuts, almonds, or chopped pecans?
Spray Color
Spray color is basically spray paint for cakes. It is sold in a variety of colors that you can mix and match to make a freehand tie-dyed effect on your cake, or you can utilize stencils.
Fresh Fruit
Most berries, grapes, oranges, lemon or lime slices, or cherries can be utilized "au naturel" and grouped together on top or arranged as a border around the cake.
Edible Flowers
Edible flowers like plain or sugared carnation, cornflower, clover, and lilac also make cake accessories.
So you can see there are abundant ways in which you can transform even the most basic cakes into marvelous decorated cakes that will make you the toast of your neighborhood.
